The McMinn Central Chargers had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They came out on top against Tellico Plains by a score of 51-38. Given McMinn Central's advantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee football rankings (they are ranked 139th, while Tellico Plains is ranked 324th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
When it comes to explaining why Tellico Plains lost, one person who can't be blamed is Chance Shapiro. Despite the final result, he rushed for 215 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 10.2 yards per carry. Shapiro's longest rush was for an incredible 75 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Omar Miller, who rushed for 31 yards and two touchdowns.
McMinn Central's win was their third straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 7-2. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 43.3 points per game. As for Tellico Plains, they are on a eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-8.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. McMinn Central will take on Chattanooga Central on Thursday. As for Tellico Plains, they will head out on the road to face off against Wartburg Central at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
