A District 1 recap October 1, 2013
Omaha Central was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after defeating Bellevue East. The Eagles came in at 22 in the state poll after placing at number 28 last week.
Millard West took down Bryan 69-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Trev Lovell was a passing and rushing force as the Chieftains fell to Omaha Central. He completed 17 passes for 228 yards and also ran for 21 yards. Lovell's key target this week was Brady Pelzer, who caught 6 passes for 140 yards.
Easton Stick threw for 237 yards and 5 touchdowns. He was 13-14 with 0 interception.
Pelzer was the best receiver in A District 1 this week as Bellevue East fell to Jay Ball's team. Pelzer tallied 6 receptions for 140 yards. Tommy Walther helped Bellevue East's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 38 yards.
Creighton Prep's Stick and R.j. Urzendowski led the league in both passing and receiving yards. Stick has thrown for 942 yards this season, while Urzendowski, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 33 catches for 566 yards. Omaha Northwest's Mitch Wynne leads the league in rushing yards with 531.
The marquee game in the league this week will be the clash between the Eagles and the Wildcats. Omaha Central enters the game ranked 22nd in the state, while Millard West ranks 11th.
The Eagles made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 2,078 from 2,665. The improvement was the result of a 48-19 victory over Jerry Lovell's team last week.
