If the Blackville-Hilda Fighting Hawks were riding high off their 71-41 takedown of the Wagener-Salley War Eagles on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Blackville-Hilda fell 56-47 to the Warhorses on Saturday. Blackville-Hilda was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Warhorses apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.
Blackville-Hilda lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Jaquel Holman, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds. Another player making a difference was Messiah Mcfadden, who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds and two blocks.
Barnwell found their leader in underclassman Vashahd Scofield, who scored 27 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Scofield has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayden Pickney, who scored nine points.
Blackville-Hilda dropped their record down to 5-11 with that loss, which was their fifth straight at home. As for Barnwell, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-10.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Blackville-Hilda will challenge the Blue Devils at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Williston-Elko is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak. As for Barnwell, they and the Jaguars will face off at 7:30 p.m. on February 2nd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday.
