The Seventy-First Falcons lost against the Westover Wolverines back in November, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. Seventy-First might have been a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting Westover an easy 67-43 victory. While losing is never fun, Seventy-First can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 350th, while Westover is ranked 87th).
Despite the loss, Seventy-First had strong showings from Kariana Williams, who scored 14 points, and Alani-Skye Wilkerson, who scored nine points along with 15 rebounds. The matchup was Williams' eighth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Mariyah Massey, who scored six points along with eight rebounds.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Westover to victory, but perhaps none more so than Rmani Robinson , who dropped a double-double on 22 points and ten rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Robinson has scored at least 25% of Westover's points. Dahliyana Baldwin was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with five steals.
Seventy-First has not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-7 record this season. As for Westover, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Seventy-First and Gray's Creek will face off at 6:00 p.m. on January 5, 2024 without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Gray's Creek focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 33 on Thursday. Westover will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Triton at 6:00 p.m. on January 5, 2024.
