Softball Recap: Lanesville Comes Up Short

Lanesville had lost three straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 7-14 to make it four. They fell 6-3 to the Trinity Lutheran Cougars. The Eagles were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cougars apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2022.

Makenna Mills put in work while hitting and pitching. She tossed 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base and one double.

Mills wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Brooklyn Albers, who went 1-for-3 with one run.

As for Trinity Lutheran, their victory ended a seven-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 4-10. Six seems to be a good number for they as the team scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Like Lanesville, Trinity Lutheran also got a great game from a two-way player: Grace Lance. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits (and not a single walk). Lance was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, Emerson Warren was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Marissa Baker, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lanesville will square off against Rock Creek Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Trinity Lutheran, they will welcome Bedford North Lawrence at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
