The Johns Creek Gladiators will take on the Chattahoochee Cougars at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Johns Creek has five straight victories, Chattahoochee has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the court.
On Thursday, Johns Creek was able to grind out a solid win over Wesleyan, taking the game 3-1.
Johns Creek had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next three. The match finished with set scores of 23-25, 25-23, 25-19, 25-13.
Johns Creek found their leader in sophomore Evelyn Sinotte, who had 12 digs and two aces. Another player making a difference was Mary Henley Sims, who had five digs and three aces.
Johns Creek was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 16 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least ten aces in eight consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Chattahoochee lost 3-0 to East Forsyth on Thursday.
The final score came out to 25-18, 25-21, 25-15.
Johns Creek will have to contain Isabella Podesta as she made an impact in Chattahoochee's last game. She had 11 assists and seven digs.
Johns Creek's victory bumped their record up to 18-9. As for Chattahoochee, their loss dropped their record down to 12-23.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Tuesday's matchup: Johns Creek has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 9.9 aces per game. However, it's not like Chattahoochee struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5.2 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
