Menlo-Atherton is 1-9 against Mills since March of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Bears will be playing in front of their home fans against the Vikings at 4:00 p.m.
On Tuesday, Menlo-Atherton came up short against Sequoia and fell 7-4.
Juliana Pandolfo was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with four stolen bases and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Emma Loose, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases.
Meanwhile, Mills had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They put the hurt on the Tigers with a sharp 18-3 win. Considering the Vikings have won nine matchups by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Hailey Pedroza looked comfortable as she pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Lucy Esquivel was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Morgan Chu, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run.
Mills kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive contests.
Mills pushed their record up to 13-3-1 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Menlo-Atherton, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-5.
Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Menlo-Atherton hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .338. However, it's not like Mills struggles in that department as they've averaged .360. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
