If the Falfurrias Fightin' Jerseys were feeling good off their 77-50 takedown of the Banquete Bulldogs last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Falfurrias fell 63-53 to Santa Gertrudis Academy on Friday. Falfurrias was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Santa Gertrudis Academy apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January.
Falfurrias' loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Quisto Sanchez, who scored 19 points along with six rebounds. Sanchez is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 19 or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Viktor Perez, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Falfurrias has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 26-6 record this season. As for Santa Gertrudis Academy, their victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-12.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Falfurrias is on the road again on Tuesday and plays Hebbronville at 7:30 p.m. on February 13th. Falfurrias is facing Hebbronville at the right time seeing as Hebbronville is stuck on a 12-game losing streak. As for Santa Gertrudis Academy, they will head out on the road to face off against Banquete at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Santa Gertrudis Academy is not getting complacent considering they own a much higher rank in Texas (they are ranked 775th, while Banquete is ranked 1652nd).
