The Tates Creek Commodores will be taking part in a tournament against the Russell Red Devils at 10:00 a.m. on Friday. Tates Creek is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.9 runs per game this season.
Tates Creek barely beat Bourbon County the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Commodores' pitcher stepped up to hand the Colonels a 15-0 shutout on Wednesday. The victory continues a trend for the Commodores in their matchups with the Colonels: they've now won four in a row.
Alexis Sempsrott was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over four innings pitched. Sempsrott was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one double. That double marked the first that she has hit this season.
In other batting news, Tates Creek got a massive performance out of Hannah Jones, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most RBI Jones has posted since back in April of 2025. Another player making a difference was Alexis Bazzell, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Tates Creek hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive contests.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Russell and South Point meet (four straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Friday. The Red Devils took a 9-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Pointers.
Allison Highfield made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base. Ava Howard was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one RBI.
Tates Creek's win bumped their record up to 7-2. As for Russell, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season.
Russell's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Friday. Tates Creek has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.3 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Russell, though, as they've been averaging only 2.6 strikeouts. Will Tates Creek keep running through batters, or will the Red Devils buck the trend?
