On Saturday, the Williamstown Blue Devils faced the Vergennes Commodores in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Williamstown snuck past Vergennes with a 60-56 victory. That 60-56 margin sets a new team best for Williamstown this season.
Williamstown was led to victory by Colby Laggner and Evan Bailey. Laggner dropped a double-double on 17 points and 13 rebounds, while Bailey shot 5-for-7 from beyond the arc and dropped a double-double on 20 points and 11 rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which Bailey has scored at least 25% of Williamstown's points. Alex Clark was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
The victory got Williamstown back to even at 2-2. As for Vergennes, their loss dropped their record down to 4-1.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Williamstown will finish 2023 at home by hosting Stowe at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Vergennes will finish 2023 at home by hosting Twinfield at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Twinfield knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past four matches -- so hopefully Vergennes likes a good challenge.
