The Flatirons Academy Bison will head out to challenge the Simla Cubs at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Flatirons Academy will roll into the match after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs on Tuesday, then bounced right back against Denver Academy on Thursday. The Bison were the clear victors by a 33-1 margin over the Mustangs. The contest marked the Bison's most dominant win of the season.
Braxton Kelley and Jayden Martinez made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Kelley pitched two innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Meanwhile, Martinez tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Kelley has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. At the plate, Kelley went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, three RBI, and one double, while Martinez got on base in all five of his plate appearances with four runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. The dominant performance also gave Martinez a new career-high in hits (three).

In other batting news, Parker Wilson was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with four runs, two triples, and four RBI. Those two triples gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Caleb Doughty, who got on base in five of his six plate appearances with three stolen bases, four runs, and four RBI.
Flatirons Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .792. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Simla won against Custer County on Tuesday with 16 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Thursday. Everything went the Cubs' way against Kiowa as they made off with a 16-1 victory. The Cubs haven't had any issues with the Indians recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.
Wyatt Stanko and Ethan Kissam did most of the damage at the plate: Stanko went 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI, while Kissam went a perfect 3-for-3 with four stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Simla is undefeated when Stanko posts two or more stolen bases, but 2-4 otherwise. Taylor Kissam also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
Simla's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-4. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.3 runs over those games. As for Flatirons Academy, their record is now 10-3.
Saturday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Flatirons Academy has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .545. However, it's not like Simla struggles in that department as they've averaged .449. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Flatirons Academy suffered a grim 13-3 defeat to Simla when the teams last played back in April of 2023. Can the Bison avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
