Central State recap Oct. 23, 2012
Reed City extended the longest winning streak in Central State this week by beating White Cloud, 55-8. The victory was the ninth in a row for the team.
Hesperia made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 9,378 from 9,666. The improvement was the result of 19-13 victory over Central Montcalm last week.
Chippewa Hills's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Jake Tarbell threw for 68 and two touchdowns and Trent Karcher had 129 yards receiving. On the ground Jason Peacock chipped in 100 yards. Peter Lewandowski helped Chippewa Hills' passing attack out by catching one ball for two yards.
Cory Kindlle made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Hornets lost to the Panthers. The 6-foot-0 junior pulled down one interception and grabbed one sack.
Steven Malloy provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Morley Stanwood fell to Newaygo. He completed one pass for 45 yards and one touchdown and also ran for 96 yards. Malloy's favorite target this week was Travis McCuaig, who caught three passes for 53 yards.
The Warriors' Tarbell and Karcher have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Tarbell has thrown for 1125 yards this season, while Karcher has 39 catches for 927 yards. Keagan James from Central Montcalm leads the league in rushing with 1134 yards.
Chippewa Hills' Karcher is only 73 receiving yards away from breaking 1,000 receiving yards this season as he enters this week's game against the Big Rapids.
Two of the top units in the league will face off this week when Larry Jose's team takes on the Cardinals. The Warriors' offense has recorded 289 points this season, making them No. 1 in the league, while Big Rapids has permitted only 122 on the year.
A big matchup in Central State this week will be when Chippewa Hills takes on Mitch Cumings' team. At the moment, the Warriors are in fourth, while the Cardinals are in second.
Reed City led the league in scoring this week after putting up 55 points on the Indians.
