The Easley Green Wave were the 39-38 winner over the Pickens Blue Flame when they last played one another back in February of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Easley fell 42-31 to Pickens on Friday. While losing is never fun, Easley can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 91st, while Pickens is ranked 11th).
Easley lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Olivia Gramblin, who scored seven points along with seven rebounds. Another player making a difference was Karson Bigham, who scored nine points along with three steals.
Pickens found their leader in underclassman Ava Owens, who scored 17 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Owens is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Maggie Chambers was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with ten rebounds and three steals.
Easley's defeat dropped their record down to 7-11. As for Pickens, they pushed their record up to 15-2 with that win, which was their seventh straight at home.
Easley will take on Berea at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Berea is coming into the contest on a six-game losing streak. As for Pickens, they will head out on the road to challenge Greenville at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
