The NV - Old Tappan Golden Knights had to hit the road for their first game and sadly it wasn't the result they were hoping for. They took a serious blow against St. Joseph Regional on Thursday, falling 69-38. While losing is never fun, NV - Old Tappan can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New Jersey basketball rankings (they are ranked 153rd, while St. Joseph Regional is ranked 29th).
St. Joseph Regional's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Alex Mazzella, who scored 14 points along with three steals. Anthony Pacciarelli was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with five rebounds.
NV - Old Tappan bumped their record down to 0-1 with that loss, which was their third straight on the road dating back to last season. As for St. Joseph Regional, their victory bumped their record up to 1-0.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. NV - Old Tappan will be home for the holidays to greet Ramapo at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Ramapo focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Friday. St. Joseph Regional will be home for the holidays to greet Norman Thomas at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Norman Thomas is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 54.4 points per game.
