The North Pontotoc Vikings will head out on the road to face off against the South Pontotoc Cougars at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: North Pontotoc has struggled recently with three losses in a row, while South Pontotoc will arrive with three straight wins.
On Tuesday, North Pontotoc had to suffer through a rough 77-48 loss at the hands of New Albany. While losing is never fun, North Pontotoc can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 186th, while New Albany is ranked 17th).
Meanwhile, South Pontotoc scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They breezed by Bruce on the road to the tune of 71-39. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 34-12.
North Pontotoc's loss dropped their record down to 5-8. As for South Pontotoc, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season.
North Pontotoc was dealt a bruising 76-42 defeat at the hands of South Pontotoc in their previous matchup back in January.
