The Lakeland Chiefs will head out to square off against the Honesdale Hornets at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
If Honesdale heads into halftime all tied up, they better play a good second half: that's when Lakeland took over last week. The Chiefs enjoyed a cozy 28-14 victory over Dunmore on Friday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Chiefs.
A big part of Lakeland's win came down to the chemistry between David Naniewicz and his top target Gavin Roberts. Naniewicz rushed for 62 yards and three touchdowns while Roberts rushed for 73 yards and one score on only seven carries. Roberts' longest rush was for an impressive 54 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total.
Meanwhile, while Honesdale put up plenty of points on Friday, the same can't be said for Western Wayne. The Hornets simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Wildcats 36-0. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for the Hornets considering their eight-point performance the contest before.
Lakeland better keep an eye on Gabe Duda. He was instrumental in Honesdale's win, rushing for 226 yards and four TDs while picking up 9.8 yards per carry. With that strong performance, Duda is now averaging an impressive 107.8 rushing yards per game. Another player making a difference was Kobe White, who gained 106 total yards and a touchdown.
Honesdale was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 359 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.
Lakeland's record now sits at 5-1. As for Honesdale, their record is now 2-4.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Saturday's game: Lakeland has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 365.7 total yards per game. It's a different story for Honesdale, though, as they've been averaging only 242 total yards. Will Lakeland be able to march up the field at their leisure again, or will the Hornets flip the script?
Lakeland and Honesdale were almost perfectly matched up in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, but Lakeland suffered an agonizing 41-40 loss. Can the Chiefs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
