The Norland Vikings were the 46-18 winner over the Northwestern Bulls when they last played one another back in November of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. Norland took a 40-34 hit to the loss column at the hands of Northwestern. Norland has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Several Vikings players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jasmine Johnson, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 12 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Shania Swan, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds.
Northwestern's win on Friday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Janyiah Mickens, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds. Mickens is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Sophonie Felix, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Norland's loss dropped their record down to 6-13. As for Northwestern, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-5.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Norland will take on Miami at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The timing is sure in Miami's favor as the team sits on five straight wins at home while Norland has been banged up by six consecutive losses on the road. As for Northwestern, they will challenge Mater Lakes Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. That game will pit two of the most dominant against one another: Vanessa Vancott and Felix.
