Union County is a perfect 3-0 against Branford since March of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Fightin' Tigers will square off against the Buccaneers at 7:00 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Union County took a loss when they played away from home on Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past West Port 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Fightin' Tigers have posted since February 27th.
Trenton Klein was excellent, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in February. DEVIN DIGGS was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Branford walked away with it. They never let the Hornets get on the board and left with a 15-0 win on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Buccaneers, who have now won 14 contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Kyler Williamson made a splash no matter where he played. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring four runs and stealing four bases while going 3-for-3.
In other pitching news, Keaton Brown looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single hit in three consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Enalee Perry, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2. The team also got some help courtesy of Jackson Skinner, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.
Branford always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .586. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hawthorne only posted an OBP of .143.
The victory (which was Branford's ninth in a row) raised their record to 20-6. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.1 runs over those games. As for Union County, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 12-13.
Everything went Union County's way against Branford in their previous meeting back in April of 2021, as Union County made off with a 20-2 win. Do the Fightin' Tigers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Buccaneers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
