On Friday, Gulf Coast earned a 47-38 win over Winter Springs. Given Gulf Coast's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 93rd, while Winter Springs is ranked 527th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Gulf Coast's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Alex Mcdonough led the charge by scoring seven points along with eight steals and five rebounds. Mcdonough is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 11 games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kiara Rakes, who scored 12 points.
Gulf Coast's win bumped their record up to 10-4. As for Winter Springs, their defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 1-6.
Gulf Coast will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Community School of Naples at 7:00 p.m. on January 2, 2024. Community School of Naples comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 24 points in their last six games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse. Winter Springs' road trip will continue as they head out to face North Miami at 1:30 p.m. on December 28th.
