The Alhambra Bulldogs's game on Friday was a tough loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Saturday. They put the hurt on Sonoma Valley with a sharp 64-43 win. With Alhambra ahead 36-16 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
Leading Alhambra to victory were Samuel Gillaspy and Cooper Largent. Gillaspy scored 21 points, while Largent scored 21 points along with three steals. Those 21 points set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Geo Alber, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds.
Despite the loss, Sonoma Valley still got an impressive performance from Will Breall, who scored 17 points along with six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Hudson Giarritta, who scored seven points along with eight rebounds.
Even though they lost, Sonoma Valley were working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Alhambra only racked up 19 assists.
Alhambra has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 5-5 record this season. As for Sonoma Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 5-4.
Alhambra will head out on the road to face off against Mt. Diablo at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Mt. Diablo will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 1189th, while Alhambra is ranked 406th). Sonoma Valley will be home for the holidays to greet Rancho Cotate at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday.
