After a string of four wins, the Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart Cyclones's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They fell to Monsignor Pace 65-59. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Several Cyclones players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Alissa Azcuy, who scored 20 points along with seven assists and two steals. Azcuy is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 15 or more in the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaira Borges, who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Even though they lost, Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart were working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Monsignor Pace only posted ten assists.
Monsignor Pace's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Catherine Guillaume, who scored 28 points along with two steals and two blocks. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Guillaume has scored all season. Alessandra Bonilla was another key contributor, scoring 20 points along with two steals.
Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-5. As for Monsignor Pace, they pushed their record up to 15-3 with that victory, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart will take on St. Brendan at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. St. Brendan will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 256th, while Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart is ranked 111th). Monsignor Pace won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Schoolhouse Prep at 7:00 a.m. on January 12th. Schoolhouse Prep is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak.
