The St. John Lutheran Saints's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their fifth straight loss. The New Year welcomed they with a 64-33 whooping from Saint Francis Catholic. St. John Lutheran was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 37-15.
Several Saints players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Brody Gravante, who scored 11 points. Those 11 points set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Cage Patrick, who scored ten points.
Even though they lost, St. John Lutheran were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Saint Francis Catholic to victory, but perhaps none more so than Liam Banks, who scored 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Cyrus Fariborzian, who scored 11 points.
St. John Lutheran bumped their record down to 1-8 with that loss, which was their third straight on the road. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 29.3 points per game. As for Saint Francis Catholic, their win bumped their record up to 9-3.
St. John Lutheran won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Riverside Christian at 7:00 p.m. on January 5th. Hopefully Riverside Christian focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 two weeks ago. As for Saint Francis Catholic, they will head out on the road to face off against Redeemer Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
