The Guthrie Bluejays will head out on the road to face off against the Carl Albert Titans at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Guthrie comes in on seven and Carl Albert on nine.
You can't lose the match if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Guthrie's strategy against Southeast on Thursday. Guthrie didn't even let Southeast onto the board and left with a 68-0 victory. The matchup was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Guthrie had established a 54 point advantage.
Meanwhile, Carl Albert was fully in charge on Friday, breezing past Bishop McGuinness 49-7 at home. Fans of Carl Albert have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season ended as a blowout.
Carl Albert's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kevin Sperry, who threw for 273 yards and four touchdowns on only 17 passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. The team also got some help courtesy of Trystan Haynes, who picked up 183 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
Their wins bumped Guthrie to 7-0 and Carl Albert to 8-0.
Guthrie was taken down by Carl Albert 41-7 when the teams last played back in October of 2022. Thankfully for Guthrie, Reed Dequasie (who rushed for 107 yards and three touchdowns on only nine carries, and also threw for 68 yards and a touchdown while completing 75% of his passes) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
