The Wellsboro Hornets came tearing into Wednesday's matchup with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15.6 points) and they left with even more momentum. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Canton 51-18 at home. That 33 points margin sets a new team best for Wellsboro this season.
Wellsboro pushed their record up to 8-3 with that victory, which was their sixth straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.3 points per game. As for Canton, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-8 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wellsboro will challenge Troy at 2:15 p.m. on Saturday. Canton won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Mansfield at 7:30 p.m. on January 18th. Mansfield knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three contests -- so hopefully Canton likes a good challenge.
