The Decatur Golden Gators are taking a road trip to challenge the Enumclaw Hornets at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Decatur sitting on four straight wins and Enumclaw on 11.
Decatur let Kentlake stack six runs on them in the first inning on Friday but luckily Decatur prevailed anyway. The Golden Gators had just enough and edged out the Falcons 9-8. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Golden Gators have posted against the Falcons since March 19, 2018.
Luci Pech was excellent, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs and one double. Another player making a difference was Sam Hackney, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Enumclaw got the win against Federal Way on Friday by a conclusive 16-6. The result was nothing new for the Hornets, who have now won ten contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Enumclaw got a massive performance out of Alyssa Harris, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, three doubles, and two RBI. Those four runs gave Harris a new career-high. Lila Schmidt also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Enumclaw kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in 13 consecutive matchups.
Enumclaw pushed their record up to 13-2 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.7 runs over those games. As for Decatur, their record is now 8-3.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Monday. Decatur hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Enumclaw struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.4 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Decatur suffered a grim 11-1 defeat to Enumclaw in their previous meeting two weeks ago. Can the Golden Gators avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
