Jefferson City came into Tuesday's contest looking for another win against Helias, but Sophie Verslues wouldn't allow it. The Crusaders came out on top against the Jays by a score of 3-1 on Tuesday with plenty of help from Verslues, who had 20 digs and three aces. She is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 13 or more in each of the last three games she's played.
Helias had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next three. The final score came out to 23-25, 25-15, 25-22, 25-9.
Meanwhile, Eldon hadn't done well against Hickman recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Mustangs put the hurt on the Kewpies with a sharp 3-0 victory.
Eldon never let Hickman on the board, but things got pretty close in the third set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-18, 25-14, 26-24.
Eldon's win came from a few key players Helias will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Jaidyn Shelden, who had 16 digs and one assist.
Helias' win bumped their record up to 29-1-1. As for Eldon, their victory bumped their record up to 21-9.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Monday's matchup: Helias has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 7.4 aces per game. However, it's not like Eldon struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.8 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Everything went Helias' way against Eldon in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, as Helias made off with a 3-0 win. Will the Crusaders repeat their success, or do the Mustangs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
