The St. John Heralds will face off against the David Anderson Blue Devils at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. St. John is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.
St. John was handed an 11-run defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Mathews, sneaking past 6-4.
Isabelle Holler was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. Holler was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mary West, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. Caitlyn Carney was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, while David Anderson put up plenty of runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for Lordstown. The Blue Devils were the clear victors by a 22-0 margin over the Red Devils. The Blue Devils might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by six runs or more this season.
Like St. John, David Anderson also got a great game from a two-way player: Kamryn Peruchetti. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. Peruchetti has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
In other batting news, David Anderson got a massive performance out of Sofia Brown, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, four runs, and one RBI. Those three stolen bases gave Brown a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Emelia Cook, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple.
David Anderson was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .594. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .323 or higher in four consecutive contests.
David Anderson is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-13 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for St. John, they now have a winning record of 10-9.
David Anderson's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: St. John has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.2 hits per game. It's a different story for David Anderson, though, as they've been averaging 9.1 hits. Given St. John's sizable advantage in that area, the Blue Devils will need to find a way to close that gap.
