Avon has enjoyed the comforts of home their last three games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will take on the Westfield Shamrocks at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Even though Decatur Central scored an imposing 56 points on Tuesday, Avon still came out on top. Avon managed a 62-56 victory over Decatur Central. The win was just what Avon needed coming off of a 70-38 defeat in their prior match.
Rohan Pearson was the offensive standout of the game as he scored 14 points along with six rebounds and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Deandre Lott-hancock, who scored ten points along with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, Westfield scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Saturday. They breezed by Tri-West Hendricks on the road to the tune of 68-27. That looming 68-27 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Westfield yet this season.
It was another big night for Nic Book, who scored 21 points along with eight rebounds. He is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last five games he's played. Caleb Wise was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with five rebounds and two blocks.
Avon is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. As for Westfield, their win bumped their record up to 12-1.
Friday's match will pit two of the most dominant forwards against one another: Kendrick Dunmore and Book. Dunmore has been dynamite this season: he has averaged 8.7 points, 1.9 blocks, and 1.6 steals. For his part, Book has averaged 11.8 points and 8.2 rebounds.
Avon skirted past Westfield 59-56 in their previous meeting back in January of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for Avon since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
