DeMotte Christian has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the Culver Community Cavaliers at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Culver Community took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on DeMotte Christian, who comes in off a win.
DeMotte Christian can now show off seven landslide victories after their most recent matchup on Monday. They breezed by South Newton at home to the tune of 57-23. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 38-5.
DeMotte Christian can attribute much of their success to Gabe Rottier, who scored 12 points, and Luke Terpstra, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Rottier has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Jacob Dyke, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds and two blocks.
Meanwhile, Culver Community's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight defeat. They ended up on the wrong side of a rough 74-51 walloping at the hands of LaVille. Culver Community found out winning isn't easy when you don't work as a unit and post 13 fewer assists than your opponent.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from David Hite, who scored 14 points along with seven steals. He hasn't dropped below two steals for ten straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Jack Rodgers, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
DeMotte Christian's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-6. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.0 points per game. As for Culver Community, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-7 record this season.
Thursday's game is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: DeMotte Christian have been dynamite from deep this season, having made 42.2% of their threes per game. However, it's not like Culver Community struggles in that department as they've made 42.2% of their threes this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
DeMotte Christian came up short against the Cavaliers in their previous matchup back in December of 2021, falling 64-55. Can DeMotte Christian avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
