The University Cougars were the 46-42 winner over the Dr. Phillips Panthers when they last played one another back in January of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. University took a 85-80 hit to the loss column at the hands of Dr. Phillips. University has been going strong on the season, but this is now their second defeat in a row.
Several Cougars players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Noah Nazario, who scored 19 points along with five assists and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Mo Kamara, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and 12 rebounds.
University's loss dropped their record down to 13-4. As for Dr. Phillips, their victory bumped their record up to 10-8.
University won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Horizon at 7:30 p.m. on January 19th. Horizon will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 504th, while University is ranked 55th). As for Dr. Phillips, they will square off against Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy at TBD on Saturday.
