Nicholas Parco made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over 4.1 innings pitched. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gavin Capper, who went 2-for-3 with five RBI, one triple, and one run. Gavin Brown was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Minisink Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .519. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Goshen Central didn't have quite enough to beat Warwick on Monday and fell 4-3.
F Mitterbauer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on 11 hits and racked up eight Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Stephen Kovacs was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one run and one double.
Goshen Central's loss dropped their record down to 7-5-1. As for Minisink Valley, their victory ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 6-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Minisink Valley has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Goshen Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Minisink Valley couldn't quite get it done against Goshen Central when the teams last played two weeks ago as they fell 4-1. Will the Warriors have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other baseball content.
