After a string of six wins, the Mt. Carmel Sundevils's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as they came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 413th, while Escondido is ranked 919th).
When it comes to explaining why Mt. Carmel lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jimmy Milder. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds. Erias Bandoy was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Mt. Carmel's defeat dropped their record down to 12-10. As for Escondido, their victory ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 9-13.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mt. Carmel won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Victory Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on January 27th. Victory Christian Academy has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 802 points over their last 11 contests. As for Escondido, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against San Dieguito Academy at 7:00 p.m. on January 27th. San Dieguito Academy has now lost 13 straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 20.
