It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but the Morris Central Mustangs ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They managed a 70-66 victory over Deposit-Hancock. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
When it comes to explaining why Deposit-Hancock lost, one person who can't be blamed is Blake Fortunato. Despite the final result, he scored 24 points along with six assists and five rebounds. Fortunato scored a full 36.4% of Deposit-Hancock's points, the fifth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Alejandro Gonzalez, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds.
Morris Central now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Deposit-Hancock, they bumped their record down to 3-2 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season.
Morris Central will challenge Margaretville Central at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Deposit-Hancock will be home for the holidays to greet Oxford Academy at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
