The Hobgood Charter Raiders will head out on the road to challenge the SouthWest Edgecombe Cougars at 6:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
If Hobgood Charter beats SouthWest Edgecombe with seven runs on Wednesday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. Hobgood Charter came out on top against North East Carolina Prep by a score of 7-2 on Thursday. The win continues a trend for the Raiders in their matchups with the Husky: they've now won five in a row.
Haleigh Eason made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over seven innings pitched. Eason was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kinsey Peel, who scored a run while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Ella Brownfield, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3.
Hobgood Charter kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as North East Carolina Prep only managed three hits.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last match, SouthWest Edgecombe made sure to put some runs up on the board against Greene Central on Tuesday. SouthWest Edgecombe never let Greene Central get on the board and left with a 15-0 victory. With that win, the Cougars brought their scoring average up to 6.8 runs per game.
Like Hobgood Charter, SouthWest Edgecombe also got a great game from a two-way player: Alana Carroll. She tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Carroll has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Mackenzie Moore and A'Chonacey Mabry did most of the damage at the plate: Moore scored three runs and stole Three bases. while going 2-for-2, while Mabry went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most runs Moore has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Iyera Winstead, who scored two runs while going 1-for-2.
SouthWest Edgecombe moved to 2-3 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Hobgood Charter, their record now sits at 2-0.
