Sahuarita is 8-1 against Amphitheater since April of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Mustangs will head out to face off against the Panthers at 4:00 p.m. Sahuarita is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11 runs per game this season.
Sahuarita barely beat Walden Grove the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Mustangs were the clear victors by a 16-2 margin over the Red Wolves on Thursday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Mustangs considering their two-run performance the game before.
Jayd Villa was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Villa was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Eliana Romero, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Brenna Figueroa, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.
Sahuarita always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .581. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Walden Grove only posted an OBP of .211.
Meanwhile, Amphitheater was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their ninth straight defeat. They came up short against Douglas, falling 11-1.
Isabella Espinoza made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Sahuarita pushed their record up to 20-4 with the win, which was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.1 runs on average over those games. As for Amphitheater, their loss dropped their record down to 1-11.
Amphitheater's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Sahuarita has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .498. It's a different story for Amphitheater, though, as they've only averaged .227. Will they be able to contain Sahuarita's hitters?
Everything went Sahuarita's way against Amphitheater in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Sahuarita made off with a 12-2 win. Will the Mustangs repeat their success, or do the Panthers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
