Caydon Swofford spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on five hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Olivia Nagel and Brooke Rice did most of the damage at the plate: Nagel went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Rice went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most hits Nagel has posted since back in March of 2025. The team also got some help courtesy of Kali Clark, who went 1-for-4 with three runs and one RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: May River kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in five consecutive games.
Battery Creek hit Cross with a four-run fourth inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Stingrays fell just short of the Dolphins by a score of 7-6.
Ryan Mayers put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off three hits. Mayers was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Ava Flavin made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Charlotte Moore was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, one run, and one double.
Cross' loss dropped their record down to 7-6. As for May River, their win bumped their record up to 9-4.
Monday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. May River has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .461. However, it's not like Cross struggles in that department as they've averaged .469. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
