The Berthoud Spartans scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Saturday. They breezed by Kennedy on the road to the tune of 94-55. That looming 94-55 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Berthoud yet this season.
Reece Stratmeyer was his usual excellent self, scoring 19 points along with seven rebounds and six assists. Stratmeyer set a new season high mark in assists with six. The team also got some help courtesy of Tate Gomes, who scored 14 points along with four steals.
Despite the loss, Kennedy saw an underclassman step up: Anthony Zink scored 25 points along with eight rebounds. Zink also scored 15+ points for the first time this season. Noah Herrera was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with nine rebounds.
Even though they lost, Kennedy were working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Berthoud only racked up 24 assists.
Berthoud's victory bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Kennedy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-3.
Berthoud will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Platte Valley at 5:30 p.m. Hopefully Platte Valley focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 24 on Saturday. As for Kennedy, they will head out on the road to face off against Gateway at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Colorado (Gateway is ranked 232nd, while Kennedy is ranked 218th).
