Softball Recap: Newman Picks Up Fifth Consecutive Win

Newman entered their tilt with Benjamin Franklin on Tuesday with four consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with five. They blew past the Falcons 19-9. The result was nothing new for the Greenies, who have now won ten contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Maryn Huber made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over 3.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted over her last nine matchups. She was even better at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, one triple, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Newman got a massive performance out of Felicity Drake, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Drake also put up a triple, which was her first of the season. Maddox Bazley was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.

Newman always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .651. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .583 or higher in five consecutive games.

Newman's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-7. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Benjamin Franklin, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-11 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Newman will head out to challenge St. Mary's Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Greenies will need to watch out since the Cougars have now posted at least ten runs in their last eight matchups. As for Benjamin Franklin, they are taking a road trip to face off against New Orleans Military & Maritime Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
