Cory-Rawson hasn't had much luck against Waynesfield-Goshen recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Fighting Hornets are taking a road trip to challenge the Tigers at 4:00 p.m. Cory-Rawson is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last four games.
Cory-Rawson is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victors by a 19-5 margin over Ottoville on Wednesday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.

Katelyn Duffman made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three stolen bases, and four runs. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (five).
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Morgan McVetta, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last six games she's played. Hazel Dixon was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double.
Cory-Rawson always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .743. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Waynesfield-Goshen unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Thursday. They took a 5-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of Jackson Center. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, Waynesfield-Goshen couldn't push the score so high this time.
Tarynn Vorhes was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She struck out 13 batters over six innings while giving up five earned runs off five hits. Vorhes was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, one triple, and one run. That triple was her first of the season.
Vorhes wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Taryn Tate, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.
Cory-Rawson's record is now 8-14. As for Waynesfield-Goshen, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-5.
Wednesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Cory-Rawson hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .369. However, it's not like Waynesfield-Goshen struggles in that department as they've averaged .373. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Cory-Rawson suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Waynesfield-Goshen when the teams last played back in April. Can the Fighting Hornets avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
