The Douglass Red Devils put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They walked away with a 64-54 win over Coahoma County. Given Douglass' advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked tenth in Tennessee, while Coahoma County is ranked 48th in Mississippi), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Despite the loss, Coahoma County saw an underclassman step up: Caleb Hearns scored no points along with 20 rebounds. Those 20 rebounds set a new season-high mark for him.
Douglass pushed their record up to 16-0 with that victory, which was their 20th straight at home dating back to last season. As for Coahoma County, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-4.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Douglass will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Trezevant at 7:30 p.m. on January 9, 2024. Coahoma County won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Holmes County Central at 12:00 p.m. on December 16th.
