Notre Dame-Green Pond and Northwestern Lehigh are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2017, but likely not for long. The Crusaders will welcome the Tigers at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Notre Dame-Green Pond is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.5 runs per game this season.
Notre Dame-Green Pond proved they can win big on Wednesday (they won by 13) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past Saucon Valley 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Crusaders have posted against the Panthers since April 4, 2022.
The team relied heavily on Austin Casal, who went 3-for-4 with one home run. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Justin Silvius, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.
Notre Dame-Green Pond hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in six consecutive matchups.
Northwestern Lehigh never got on the board in their matchup on Tuesday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Palmerton on Friday. They blew past the Blue Bombers 13-4. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won five games by seven runs or more so far this season.
Cannon Fitch was a standout: he scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his six plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Aidan Freeman, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.
Northwestern Lehigh pushed their record up to 7-1 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Notre Dame-Green Pond, their win bumped their record up to 5-3.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Notre Dame-Green Pond hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .333. However, it's not like Northwestern Lehigh struggles in that department as they've averaged .378. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Notre Dame-Green Pond might still be hurting after the 12-4 defeat they got from Northwestern Lehigh when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Crusaders avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
