The Rainier Mountaineers will venture away from home to take on the Mossyrock Vikings at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Rainier took a 13-run loss the last time they faced off against Toutle Lake, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. Rainier came out on top in a nail-biter against Toutle Lake on Wednesday, sneaking past 5-3. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Mountaineers as it put an end to their seven-game losing streak dating back to last season.
Hunter Howell spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned runs on six hits.
On the hitting side, Rainier saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Peyton Sheaffer, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, while Mossyrock put up some runs on Wednesday, the same can't be said for Winlock. Everything went Mossyrock's way against Winlock as Mossyrock made off with an 8-0 victory. The Vikings haven't had any issues with the Cardinals recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Easton Kolb made a splash no matter where he played. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Kolb was even better at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing Four bases. while going 3-for-4. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.
In other batting news, Austin Isom was incredible, scoring a run and stealing Four bases. while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in stolen bases. Another player making a difference was Van Kost, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.
Rainier's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Mossyrock, their record is now 2-0.
Rainier might still be hurting after the 8-2 defeat they got from Mossyrock in their previous meeting on Friday. Can Rainier avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
