The Washburn Pirates fought the good fight in their overtime game against the Hancock County Indians on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 60-59 to the Indians. Washburn's defeat continues an unfortunate trend for the team, making it three in a row.
Washburn lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Dillion Mullins, who scored 19 points. Another player making a difference was Billy Jo Wolfenbarger, who scored 15 points.
Washburn has traveled a rocky road recently having lost 11 of their last 12 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-17 record this season. As for Hancock County, their victory ended a 11-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-16.
Washburn didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 105-43 loss vs. Cosby on the 10th. Hancock County will be playing in front of their home fans against Washburn at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
