The Sierra Chieftains are taking a road trip to square off against the Madera South Stallions at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Sierra is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.
On Wednesday, Sierra came up short against Roosevelt and fell 9-4.
Naliyah Gibson made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Kenley Terry, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Madera South). They blew past Central 20-3 on Tuesday. The victory was familiar territory for the Stallions, who have now won three games in a row.
Dallas Chavira made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI and two runs. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Madera South got a massive performance out of Alana Garcia, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and one RBI. That's the most runs Garcia has posted since back in March. Mia Pompa was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with five stolen bases and two runs.
Madera South always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .730. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Madera South's record now sits at 13-10. As for Sierra, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-12.
Thursday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Sierra hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .383. However, it's not like Madera South struggles in that department as they've averaged .346. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
