The South Barber Chieftains had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 42 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Thursday. They claimed a resounding 64-18 win over Hodgeman County on the road. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 42-12.
South Barber's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Briggs Jewell, who threw for 212 yards and three touchdowns on only 18 passes, and also punched in two touchdowns on the ground. Jewell hasn't dropped below three passing touchdowns for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Lukas Dunham, who gained 116 total yards and four touchdowns.
Hodgeman County's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performance. Perhaps the best among them was Ian Reece, who rushed for 81 yards and a touchdown, and also picked up 60 receiving yards.
South Barber's victory bumped their record up to 8-1. As for Hodgeman County, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-4.
South Barber will take on Victoria at 7:00 p.m. on November 3rd. Victoria is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune. Hodgeman County does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
