It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact the El Monte Lions can now relate to. They took a 44-37 hit to the loss column at the hands of Hawthorne on Friday. El Monte's loss signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.
Brandon Do and Felipe Taboada certainly did their best on Friday to try and avoid the loss. Do rushed for 131 yards and two touchdowns, while Taboada rushed for 123 yards and three touchdowns.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Hawthorne to victory, but perhaps none more so than Marcus Bindi, who rushed for 53 yards and two touchdowns on only seven carries, and also picked up 70 receiving yards. Bindi was no stranger to the big play, connecting with a big catch that went for 66 yards. Obie Brown was another key contributor, throwing for 231 yards and two touchdowns while completing 81.8% of his passes.
El Monte's loss dropped their record down to 5-7. As for Hawthorne, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 6-6 record this season.
El Monte does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Hawthorne also has no future games currently scheduled.
