Apollo Ridge is a perfect 6-0 against Northgate since April of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Vikings will look to defend their home field against the Flames at 4:00 p.m. Apollo Ridge is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 12.2 runs per game this season.
Apollo Ridge will roll into the matchup after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs last Monday, then bounced right back against Shady Side Academy on Monday. The Vikings were the clear victors by a 16-1 margin over the Bulldogs. The Vikings haven't had any issues with the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Mikaila Ditty made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two runs and two RBI.
In other batting news, Jocelyn Snyder and Madison Butler did most of the damage at the plate: Snyder got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and two RBI, while Butler went 2-for-3 with three runs and four RBI. That's the most RBI Butler has posted since back in April of 2024. Giana Pals was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Apollo Ridge always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Northgate fell victim to South Allegheny and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They came up short against the Gladiators, falling 13-0. Having soared to a lofty 12 runs in the game before, the Flames' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Apollo Ridge's win was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-2. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Northgate, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-5 record this season.
Apollo Ridge took their win against Northgate when the teams last played two weeks ago by a conclusive 14-1 score. Will the Vikings repeat their success, or do the Flames have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
