Basketball Recap: North Clayton Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Triston Magitt and Jaquavius Cox

North Clayton was the 63-51 winner over Cedar Grove when they last played one another back in December of 2019, but their luck changed this time around. The North Clayton Eagles received a blow on Saturday as they fell 75-57 to the Cedar Grove Saints. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 262nd, while the Saints are ranked 12th).

North Clayton's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Jaquavius Cox, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 boards, and Triston Magitt, who posted 20 points and five rebounds. That's the most points Magitt has posted since back in November of 2024. Another player making a difference was Deonta Croft, who had five points.

This is the second loss in a row for North Clayton and nudges their season record down to 9-10. As for Cedar Grove, they pushed their record up to 16-3 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home.

North Clayton is taking a road trip to challenge Douglass at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. North Clayton is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.9 points per game this season. As for Cedar Grove, they will be playing at home against Mt. Zion at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Cedar Grove's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four games.
