The Herriman Mustangs will head out on the road to take on the Corner Canyon Chargers at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Herriman has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the game with three straight defeats, while Corner Canyon will come in with four straight victories.
Herriman fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Mountain Ridge on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Sentinels by a score of 15-13. On the bright side, the 13- run performance marked the Mustangs' highest-scoring contest to date.
Ryker Renteria was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run while going 2-for-4. Kayson Thomas also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Meanwhile, Corner Canyon made easy work of Copper Hills on Friday and carried off a 12-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Chargers, who have now won four games by six runs or more so far this season.
Andrew Nice made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. Nice was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Corner Canyon got a big performance out of Garrett Downing, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Justin Delgrosso, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
Corner Canyon always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .559. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Copper Hills only posted an OBP of .227.
Corner Canyon pushed their record up to 9-4 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Herriman, their loss dropped their record down to 7-6.
Tuesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Herriman hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .313. However, it's not like Corner Canyon struggles in that department as they've averaged .348. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Herriman suffered a grim 13-2 defeat to Corner Canyon in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Mustangs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
