Calhoun City has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will take on the North Side Gators at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Calhoun City walked away with it. They blew past Eupora, posting a 58-6 victory at home. With Calhoun City ahead 45-6 at the half, the match was all but over already.
It was another big night for Jamajah Mayes, who rushed for 224 yards and four touchdowns on only 11 carries. Mayes hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for seven straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Xavian Pittman, who rushed for 79 yards and three touchdowns on only ten carries.
Meanwhile, North Side was fully in charge on Friday, breezing past Hatley 46-14 on the road. The win made it back-to-back wins for North Side.
Calhoun City's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-0. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-9 Coffeeville and 2-8 Palmer (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 30.9% over those games). As for North Side, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season.
Calhoun City couldn't quite finish off North Side when the teams last played back in November of 2021 and fell 22-20. Can Calhoun City avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
